CITY SERVICES AND PROGRAMS

  • Vehicle Stickers: All residents must register all vehicles with the City within 30 days of residency.  Vehicle stickers can be purchased at City Hall, Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on-line using the E-Pay link, and at the Palos Heights Currency Excahnge located at 12332 Harlem Avenue.
  • Dog Tags: It is very important to register and purchase tags for your pet.  In the event your dog gets loose or lost, the police can quickly locate the owner by the number on the dog tag. Cost is $5.00.
  • Garbage Service: The City has a contract with Allied Waste Services for all residential waste hauling/recylcing.  Please contact Allied at (708) 385-8252 for service/questions.
  • Voter Registration:  Two forms of identification are required when registering for a voter’s card at City Hall.
  • Chipper Service:  The Public Works Department operates a seasonal branch chipping service from April through October.  The chipper truck regularly travels the city streets to pick up tree and bush branches placed at the roads edge with the stubs facing out towards the street.  Branch chips are available, at no cost, to residents by calling Public Works at 361-1806 and placing your request.  Chips will be delivered as available.
  • Fire and ambulance services are provided by fire protection districts.  The area east of 76th Avenue is serviced by the Palos Heights Fire Protect District and the area west of 76th Avenue is serviced by the Palos Fire Protection District.  In an emergency, either department, as well as the police, can be reached by dialing 9-1-1.
  • Our Police Department consists of a staff of full and part-time officers, clerks, detectives and investigators.  Our Neighborhood Watch Program is extensive. The latest crime statistics published by the Federal Bureau of Investigation lists Palos Heights as having one of the lowest crime rates in the metropolitan area for its population.  You are also urges to take advantage of the Police Department’s Vacation House Watch Program by simply informing the department with the dates that you will be away from home, and they will put a special watch on your home while you are gone.
  • The Recreation Department offers a variety of programs and amenities throughout the year for all age groups.  Palos Heights has a beautiful Olympic size swimming pool located at Community Park at 76th Avenue just south of College Drive.  Ball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, picnic areas and playground equipment can be found in various combinations at our five parks.  There is also an extensive organized children’s baseball program.  Program books are available at the Recreation Department and City Hall.  For additional information, please call 361-1807.
  • The Palos Heights Public Library is located at 12501 S. 71st Avenue.  Hours are Monday thru Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The library is a member of the Suburban Library System.  For further information, please call 448-1473.
