The City of Palos Heights, like many south suburban communities, is surrounded by forest preserves, prairies, and open lands which are home to native wildlife (raccoons, deer, coyote, etc.). As the suburban sprawl continues and open lands are developed, the wildlife is forced into residential neighborhoods. Deer and coyote are more visable in the winter months when they are searching for food. While they are not harmful to humans, they can be a nuisance. The City of Palos Heights is not licensed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to trap or kill any wildlife. Both Cook County and the IDNR feel it is important that resdients be educated on the native wildlife in our area. The following links provide much useful information, precautions to take, and preventative measures. For assistance with problems, please call Cook County Animal Control at 708-974-6140
