Construction crews will be beginning a project to repair areas of the structural steel and deck of the Harlem Avenue bridge over the Cal-Sag Channel on, or around, August 12th. The Illinois Department of Transportation advises that the project will entail having to reduce Harlem Avenue down to one, 11-foot, lane in each direction. This is expected to cause significant traffic delays and motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes or to plan for these delays in their travels. The project is expected to be finished by the end of this coming November.
Drivers are asked to take extra precautions while driving in the area, such as reducing speeds, avoiding distractions and cell phones, and paying close attention for workers and equipment to ensure everyone stays safe.
